Short answer: the LEDs will outlive your interest in the panel. A 50,000-hour rating is around 200,000 fifteen-minute sessions. What actually determines how long a panel lasts is the driver, the cooling and the warranty behind them — none of which appear in the headline number.
What the rating means
LED lifespan is usually quoted as L70: the point at which output has fallen to 70% of its original level. It is not the point at which the LED stops working. LEDs rarely fail outright — they dim, gradually, over thousands of hours.
Put the common ratings against realistic use:

The arithmetic is absurd, and that is the point. Both figures mean the same thing in practice: you will not wear out the LEDs. A brand advertising 100,000 hours against a rival's 50,000 is not offering you anything you can use.

What actually fails
A red light panel is not just LEDs. It is a mains-powered appliance, and the failure points are the ordinary ones.
The driver. The power supply converting mains to the LEDs' requirement. Electrolytic capacitors inside it degrade with heat and time, and this is the most common failure in LED lighting generally. Nobody advertises driver lifespan.
Cooling. Larger panels use fans. Fans have bearings, bearings wear, and a fan that seizes takes the panel with it because the LEDs overheat. Fan-cooled panels are not worse — they are usually higher output — but the fan is a moving part in a device that otherwise has none.
Controls. Touchscreens, timers and remotes are electronics with their own failure modes.
Physical damage. A tall panel that gets knocked over is the single most likely end for a home unit — which is an argument for a properly matched stand rather than propping it against a wall.
Why the warranty tells you more than the rating
A manufacturer's LED rating is a component specification copied from a datasheet. A warranty is a financial commitment against the whole device, including the driver and the fan.
Two questions worth asking about any warranty:
What does it cover? Some cover manufacturing faults in the panel but exclude the power supply. Read the wording rather than the headline number of years.
Where does the claim go? A three-year warranty on a device that has to be shipped overseas for inspection at your cost is worth considerably less than the same warranty served from a UK address. This is not a technicality — a full-body panel is around 20kg boxed.

Does output drop before then?
Gradually, yes — that is what the L70 figure describes. But the decline over any realistic ownership period is small enough that you will not perceive it, and it is not a reason to replace a panel.
Worth distinguishing from UVB, where the opposite is true. A narrowband UVB tube is a genuine consumable — output falls meaningfully and the tube needs replacing, as a guide after roughly 400 operating hours. Fluorescent UV tubes and LEDs age on completely different timescales, and it is a common source of confusion between the two device types.
Getting the most out of a panel
- Let it breathe. Do not block vents or fans. Heat is what ages both LEDs and drivers.
- Keep it dry. Standard RLF panels are IP20 — dry rooms only, away from steam and water.
- Mount or stand it properly. Most panels that die young are dropped, not worn out.
- Do not run it harder than you need. More time does not proportionally increase the effect, and lower output settings run cooler.
- Dust the front occasionally. A dusty lens scatters light before it reaches you.
What this means when comparing panels
Treat LED lifespan as a tie-breaker at most. If two panels are otherwise equal and one claims double the hours, it changes nothing you will experience.
The specifications that do differentiate are measured output at a stated distance, the wavelengths on offer, the panel's physical coverage, and the warranty.
